Hot summers and wet winters generally characterize Portugal. During winter, Portugal has, on average, 5 to 6 hours of sunshine per day, 14 dry days, and a maximum of 16C. During summer, the weather is perfect, 11 to 12 hours of sun per day, an average of 25C, and a mean of 29 dry days.
Portugal’s climate varies according to the altitude and proximity to the ocean. In the mountainous region, conditions are generally colder and more humid. On the other hand, Lisbon, the Alentejo and Algarve regions have long and hot summers with temperatures up to 35–40ºC.
