In 2016, the Portuguese government launched its National Strategy for Entrepreneurship called Startup Portugal with three main objectives as follows:
- Create and support the national entrepreneurship ecosystem
- Attract domestic and foreign investment to the local ecosystem
- Accelerate the growth of Portuguese startups in international markets
In 2018, the Portuguese government introduced The Startup Portugal+ Program featuring the adoption of 20 additional measures to further improve and strengthen the Portuguese Entrepreneurship Ecosystem.
